BIO

A college dropout from University at Albany, Kiki went on to intern with DMLA in 2016 where she soon joined the team full-time as an assistant literary agent.


Kiki is now building her client list within young adult and adult fiction with a focus on queer and BIPOC authors.

More freedom in choosing projects than editorial in-house, but no real ah-ha! moment.

WHAT’S CHALLENGING ABOUT BEING A BLACK AGENT IN PUBLISHING?

Specifically as a rising Black agent, we don't receive the same grace or loyalty as white agents in our ability to grow as an agent or work for our clients.

WHAT’S A COMMON MYTH ABOUT AGENTS?

For a lot of us, especially those with fewer sales and who are Black, really do not have as much power to hold writers back as it's being publicly talked about.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR QUERYING WRITERS?

If you let yourself get too jaded, you won't have enough in your well to fill yourself back up. Also, the most common thing I see in queries is 1. Incompatibility with what I seek which is info that can be found publicly online 2. queries that are too focused on theme rather than what specific crucial plot events the Main Character will be facing.
